  • In the wild, Camponotus sayi typically nests in dead oak or mesquite branches above ground, often within wood pieces 2–8 cm in diameter. Colonies are monogynous and consist of various worker castes including minors, medias, and majors. The species thrives in dry scrublands, oak-juniper forests, and riparian zones. They are known for their preference for elevated, dry nesting sites and their seasonal activity peaks in spring and early summer.
