  • In nature Aphaenogaster geei inhabits forest edges, leaf litter, and lightly vegetated areas where they build nests in soil, under stones, or within rotting wood. They are highly active foragers and rely on their speed and agility to explore their surroundings and locate food.

Workers often forage individually rather than in large trails and are known for their scavenging behavior. They collect a wide variety of food including insects, seeds, and sugary substances. Colonies are usually modest in size, often consisting of a few hundred workers, which makes their behavior easy to observe in captivity.
