General:
Solenopsis fugax are polygionous and like most Solenopsis, are thief ants, this means that their diet is mostly comprised of other ant species’ brood which they steal by making miniscule tunnels between their nests and the prey’s.Solenopsis fugax are a group of species yet to be divided but they all share most of the qualities described above, this though might explain why some S.fugax queens are polygionous while others kill any other queen introduced.
Food:
These ants have a very varied diet, eating most foods like crickets, mealworms, honey, sugar water etc. They will also happily eat other ants’ brood as they would in nature.
If you feed insects from the wild freeze or boil these insects to sterilize them. Skipping this step can introduce mites to your colony.
Humidity:
these ants don’t require very high humidity and the nest should be watered once or twice a week.Be mindful that no major condensation happens seeing as the workers are very small and may easily drown in it.
Temperature:
These ants will thrive at 25-30c
Hibernation:
they require a diapause from November to February.
Sting/bite:
these ants do sting as all Solenopsis but their stingers are too small to pierce human skin.
