  • In the wild Camponotus lateralis inhabits warm Mediterranean habitats such as dry grasslands, open forests, rocky hillsides, and woodland edges. They commonly nest under stones, in dry soil, or within small cavities in wood and roots.

Workers are active foragers and search for sugary liquids and small insects. Colonies are generally calm and organized, with workers often foraging individually rather than in large trails.
